CLEANING
A professional dental cleaning at least twice a year can improve your oral health, reports the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD), an organization of general dentists dedicated to continuing dental education.

SURGICAL
EXRACTION
If a more volatile tooth has not yet grown, your dentist must remove the tissue from the gums or bone to remove it. This is called surgical removal and requires stitches to close the site so that it can heal properly. The doctor may also prescribe a more specific pain medication after the procedure.

EXTRACTION
Tooth extraction is performed by a dentist or oral surgeon and is a relatively quick outpatient procedure with either local, general, intravenous anesthesia, or a combination. Removing visible teeth is a simple extraction. Teeth that are broken, below the surface, or impacted require a more involved procedure.
